The Easiest Way to Gain An Unfair Advantage Over Your Competitors

Marketing is ever-growing and changing. New tips, tricks, and trends are being thrown in front of business owners every day.

Not to mention, the accessibility to AI has only catapulted the conversation even more.

Here’s the sad thing:

  • No tips are guaranteed to work

  • They all require boatloads of time trying to refine what works for your business

  • AI content is super generic (unless you spend hours learning and creating prompts)

  • They take time away from either your business work, family time, or self-care time

This usually creates more stress than it generates results. Even if you see a small spike, was all of it worth it at the end of the day?

Take it from me. I’ve tried every trick and tip under the sun for multiple business types, and yet the only thing it left me with was a deep disdain for social media. So much that I had to take an extended break from the platforms (this was in 2020-2021).

I’ve since overcome those struggles but that’s what happens when all your emphasis is on social media strategies.

I got started in the digital marketing and content creation space in 2017. I’ve made blogs, podcasts, short-form videos, long-form videos, eBooks and just about every other type of content that isn’t X-Rated.

One thing I can say is that the amount of changes in not only the algorithms but in the platforms themselves is astronomical. No expert could have predicted the landscape of how the social media platforms have grown and changed in the last decade.

What’s even more sad is the number of businesses (to this day) that still put such a heavy weight on social media marketing, when it isn't generating the desired results.

I’m not suggesting social media marketing is bad or a waste of time, but to neglect the other forms of marketing seems a bit dangerous.

A Scary Thought

Remember the Tik Tok ban?

Imagine if all your marketing efforts went into creating TikTok videos, and it was shut down for real. What’s scary is that all of the platforms have the same ability.

Not to mention, if you post something they don’t like or that fits outside their community guidelines, they can just wipe your page’s existence like it was never there.

That’s an extremely rare occurrence, but it’s possible and the rules, regulations, and guidelines are constantly changing.

The One Consistency in the Digital World

Since my start in digital marketing, there has been one consistency in the space that I can say with confidence, hasn’t changed much (if any at all).

And that would be landing pages.

Now, it’s true that there’s always new tricks and tips for websites and landing pages but since videos have become easier to produce (or hire) as well as an ease for web development to be able to hold those videos, not much has changed.

Many of the top performing websites, whether it’s for a product or service, have a few key elements. A solid headline, a high-quality video, well written copy below the video, and a compelling call-to-action.

For the last decade, that has been a winning formula for just about any business in any industry.

Quite honestly, it doesn’t matter what website builder you use as long as you know the structure of how the pages can flow, have a budget to hire or skills to produce high-quality video content on your own, and can write compelling sales copy.

Pretty websites with no real goal in mind don’t do much, but I’m not sure they ever have. I believe it makes you a little more “legitimate” but that’s about it.

Now, if you’re a service-based local business, then fine. Having a good-looking “digital brochure” for your company is fine and can help generate some interest. But it’s not going to be driving an immense amount of leads.

A way to improve that, include a brand video that tells your company’s story that shows the key people, and highlights the products/services. That’s by far the best way to separate your business from competitors.

This gives website visitors a reason to work with you way more than just a pretty website with an “about us” page.

A high-quality brand video is almost like a “mini-documentary” that gives your audience an up-close and personal greeting to your company. This provides a whole new level of trust and credibility that makes every prospect feel good about working with you. It almost makes the decision a no-brainer.

Now… Here’s how to effortlessly market like you have a 24/7 salesperson.

To take your website and landing pages a step further, you have to get specific. You may have one product/service or multiple.

Each product/service should have an individual landing page, that’s step one.

Once you have an idea of those landing pages or “sales funnels” the absolute best way to streamline the process is creating an educational video for that specific product/service.

This is like having a sales person communicate to each website visitor at all times, any hour of the day.

Here’s a tip: it works even better if you, as the business owner, are the one giving the message.

Imagine, every lead for your business calling you and getting their questions answered by the owner themselves. Sounds stressful for you as the owner, right? But jump in the client/customer’s shoes for a moment. How nice and comforting would that be to hear directly from the owner of the business?

You as the business owner most likely know what your prospect’s questions and concerns are relating to your business. This video simply addresses those.

Of course, there’s a little more nuance that goes into it and a flow to the delivery of the message, but in short, this is the gist.

This is singlehandedly the easiest and most effective marketing strategy that I’ve seen in the digital space and has been for years.

If high-quality videos and website builders weren’t so out of reach in the early years of the internet, I’d imagine they’d be ruling the space even longer.

This has been by far the most effective way to market and the most consistent. Way more than short-form video content.

Short-form content is a supplement to the overall strategy.

One more thing… Since social media is still a part of online marketing, one high-quality video can be chopped up into many to implement into your social media campaigns.

Like I said, it’s not bad or a complete waste of time. It just shouldn’t be the number one focus for most businesses.

The focus should be on creating dedicated strategies that educate your audience and take them on a journey.
